I’m back again doctors about the same exposure since I was tested at 53 day mark my anxiety has been playing up really bad. I know your not an anxiety therapist. But my questions to you are I have grown a spot in my pubic area which feels like a boil now and the side where the boil is has got other hairs with pink heads on them. I’m really panicked I have got tested again since the last time I was tested which was today with a lab based test at 72 days the boil has been there for over a week but the pink head spots are itchy and I noticed them today.
My results have come back negative could this be a delayed reaction relating to hiv I’m really concerned as my armpit pain comes and goes both armpit night sweats continue and weight seems to be dropping. I was tested for syphillis at 44 days post exposure should I rule that out. I’m just in a state of panic. I need your advice please.

1) could this be related to an std the boil.
2) should I continue avoiding my wife and get tested at the 3 month mark as the gum clinic stated previously.
4) is 72 day hiv 4gen ag/ab lab based bloods conclusive.

Your help would be kindly appreciated.

Welcome back to the Forum although I must say that I am sorry you felt the need to return.  I reviewed your earlier interaction with Dr. Handsfield and agree with all that he said, most importantly including the statement that "Your negative result at 53 days was 100% conclusive."  No new symptom or concern is going to change that fact.  Your syphilis results are similarly conclusive.  The location and description of the lesions you provide are an excellent description of folliculitis, the process of developing pimple-like lesions in plugged hair follicles.  It is best NOT to squeeze these lesions, particularly if there are multiple lesions. Rather simple washing with soap and water and the gentle abrasion that occurs by using a washcloth will take care of this problem.

In answer to your specific questions:
1. No, see above.
2. No, there is no need for further testing for HIV, for syphilis, or for any other STI related to your contact >70 days ago.
3. Your 53 test was conclusive, so is your 73 day test.

My sense is that the problem here is one of guilt and related anxiety.  You need to figure out how to address this, not continue to worry about STIs that you did not acquire.  EWH

But doctor the main spot has turned into a boil lump type, hard. Why are the gum clinics telling me to come back again after 3 months.

I have never felt this unwell before, have you ever heard of someone test negative at 10 week then positive at 12? If the gum clinic are asking me to come back at 3 months would that mean 12 week 84 days or 3 months as in 90 days.

HIV does not cause "boils" of the sort you describe.  Your results are conclusive,  I trust that the doctors have asked you to return for reasons other than concern for HIV.  As we have both already told you, your results are conclusive after 42 days.  They will not change.  EWH---

No the gum clinic told me to return to rule out hiv and syphillis after 3 months 100% this is what’s concerning me as I have been for many hiv 4th gen duo test the last one at 72 days post exposure. I have never felt this ill before I have been to the doctors this morning again he has prescribed me doxycycline antibiotics for my night sweats in case of an infection other than an sti.  Please could you tell me

1) if I was to return at 3 months which is 84 days after exposure what’s the lolly hood of my results changing.

2) would doxycycline affect hiv/syphillis test at 12 weeks?

3) do people sweat at night if they have been anxious all day and does being anxious cause body to drop a lot of weight.

I know this is my final question and answer just need to know if I was to return at 12 weeks as the gum clinic advised would me taking these antibiotics (doxycyline) affect a rapid test if performed 12 weeks (84 days) past exposure.

Thank you so much.

Final response.  As you know, the Forum provides up to three responses to client questions.  This is my 3rd response.  As per Forum guidelines, this thread will be closed later today.

In my opinion, the GUM Clinic was being overly conservative.  As for your continuing concerns:
1.  Very, very small.  There are no data to provide a precise percentage estimate.
2.  No
3.  Yes

Doxycycline would have no effect on a rapid test for HIV at 12 weeks.  I am confident your result will be negative.  EWH

Sorry doctor on the previous question I was told it was conclusive and wouldn’t change but now your telling me there’s a very very small chance. I’m so confused. I have tested past the 42 day mark at 72 days!
