[Question #5315] Herpes questions

I have a couple questions:

If I have oral herpes what measures should I take to prevent spreading it to my Genitals or another place on my body after I touch my sore when take a shower ??

Also if I have an oral outbreak and dry my mouth with towels and sore comes in contact with towel, does washing those towels/ clothes in the washer kill the virus ? Does it need to be with very hot water or just normal temp.

What do you recommend works for suppression therapy including the dose, freq and name. What antiviral do you recommend works best for outbreaks ? Also do you think otc abreva has any effect on a outbreak ?

Once you have herpes in one location on your body, it would be extremely unlikely to newly acquire that same type in a new location (genitals, for example).
I'm not a big Abreva fan - the time it shortens an outbreak is quite minimal.  For suppression, you can take 500 mg of Valtex once a day or 400 mg of acyclovir twice a day.  If you want to treat only outbreaks as they happen, you can take 2 gram of valacyclovir (or Valtrex) when you first notice symptoms and the 2 grams 12 hours later.
I have no worries about towels or the laundry at all.
