[Question #5344] Test Question

Good Afternoon Doctors.

I have reframed from this service and moved on with my life.  And I am aware that I was a worry well and asked way to many anxiety driven questions (sorry for that)    But....  I just realized that after my last potential encounter (condom protected sex/oral with FSW in South America)  my HIV test drawn via Vein by clinical pathology labs in the US was drawn at 40 days.  Lab received my blood at 41 days.  I know this is 2 days shy of your six week recommendation.  Do I need to retest?

I am pleased that it has been several months since you last posted.  I am sorry however to receive this question.  I'll provide a single response and close the thread.

It is statistically unlikely that your partner had HIV and even if they did, you used a condom for all exposures.  This was a virtually no risk exposure which, had you asked me if you needed to test, I would have said no.  At 4 weeks current HIV tests are 99% sensitive and there is no meaningful difference, particularly in your case between the result you received for a specimen collected at 40 days after exposure and at 42 days.  There is no need for further testing

End of thread.  EWH
