[Question #541] Chance of Herpes Hiv transmission

Hello Doctors, about 3 nights ago I had a somewhat risky experience at a stripclub. I received a nude lap dance from Female dancer. My fingers did come into contact with the inside as well as the outside of her vagina. At one point my fingers did touch my tongue after being in contact with her vagina. I was curious to know the likelihood of any transmission of Herpes or Hiv? Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

You really needn't worry; this even wasn't even "somewhat" risky. Nobody ever catches STDs by hand-genital contact, fingering, etc. STDs are not simply infections that happen to involve the genitals. Without exception, they are caused by bacteria and viruses that require the intimacy of intercourse and overt exchange of fluids in the genital area for transmission to occur. Hands and fingers cannot carry enough virus or bacteria to allow transmission. For sure you are not at risk for HIV, herpes, or any other STD. You should not be tested on account of this event and if you have a regular partner, you should continue your normal sexual relationship without worry.
I hope this has been helpful. Best wishes-- HHH, MD
