Good Day Doctors,

I am a 27 year old female. I travel a lot due to my professional commitments. I checked into the hotel today and headed straight for the shower. While getting into the shower, i lost my balance and slipped. I fell into the tub directly, with no garments on. This incident is bothering me and i am getting worked up if i could have contracted any infections like HIV or any other genital infection? What should i do now?

Welcome to the forum.

You might have a misunderstanding about how HIV is and is not transmitted. In the 40+ years of the known worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, here has never been a case known to have been acquired from a contaminated environment. For example, the household members of infected persons never catch it even after years or decades of sharing toilets, kichens, showers, eating utensils, towels, or clothing with the infected person (assuming they are not that persons sex or needle-sharing partners). Even if an HIV infected person had used the shower immediately ahead of you, there was no risk at all from your fall. Same for all STDs. (They call them sexually transmitted for a reason. They are not just infections that happen to involve the genitals. Sex itself is required for transmission.)

So no worries at all. Assuming you have not been at risk through your sexual activies and partnerships, or by sharing equipment for drug injection, you do not need testing for HIV or anything else.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
