[Question #5486] Exposure post deep dental cleaning

Hello, and thank you for your work. I’ve browsed around the questions and haven’t yet found an answer that feels completely congruous to my specific question, so here it goes:
Can you describe the risk of an HIV (or other) infection for performing oral sex on a female csw roughly 20-24 hours after receiving a deep dental cleaning (scaling and root planing)? Does having these deep wounds in the mouth provide a pathway for infection, even if there is no noticeable bleeding?
Secondly, does the depth of the oral have anything to do with risk? Specifically oral that is limited to the outside of the vagina and non-insertive?

Welcome to our forum. I'll be glad to address your question. There are no proven cases in which cunnilingus has led to acquisition of HIV infection. There are no data to suggest that having had a recent deep dental cleaning procedure, dental disease, mouth sores, or other lesions within the mouth change that. Similarly the depth of penetration, the amount of vaginal secretion which might be swallowed, are not variables that change this statement. Finally I would add that overall no matter what your geographic location HIV infection in women is relatively uncommon. I would not worry about the risk of HIV problem from performing cunnilingus on a woman.
I hope that this information is helpful to you. If not, please feel free to use your up to two follow-up questions for clarification. EWH
