[Question #5504] HPV2 Exposure

Hi there,

About 4 weeks ago I had sexual contact with a guy who told me he had HPV2. We did have protected sex once, but the sexual contact was not protected. It consisted of our genitals rubbing together (maybe 1 min max), but that was about it. We did kiss and we both preformed oral sex on each other. He told me he had not had a break out in a long time, he takes his medication for the virus, and he did not show any worrying signs - meaning no bumps, itching, redness, blisters, etc.

I personally haven't had any symptoms or signs so far, but I should note, due to me anxiety, I did buy and am taking suppression medicine for HPV2 just in case.
Now the worry is absolutely killing me.
I am going to get tested tomorrow, but I would like to know, what is the likelihood that I possibly contracted the virus from him?
Was this a high risk situation?
And should I be worried?

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

In the 25 years of this and our preceding forum, with thousands of questions, this is the first I recall about HPV type 2. Is it a typo) -- we get many questions about HIV2 and HSV2, but never HPV2 before now. HPV2 causes common hand and foot warts, but rarely genital infection, and is not included in routine testing for HPV (e.g. when testing pap smears). And there is no "suppression medicine" for HPV. Please confirm you mean human papillomavirus type 2 and not HSV2 or HIV2, then I'll be happy to reply to your questions.

Thanks--  HHH, MD
