[Question #5570] Condom Information Tears and Breaks

Dr. Hook answered my last question about the possibility of condom microtears in condoms and said that they are “urban myth”. Which I completely agree with.

My question off my last question is why are websites like planned parenthood saying that there could be micro tears in condoms that could lead to pregnancy? Also if there are small  tears in condom is it enough for there to be risk of STIs and pregnancy? Or are condom tears and breaks so serve that they are noticeable without great deal of inspection?

Logic would say that they would leave no doubt because of the friction caused by the penis inside of the vagina or anus.

This article is about 16 years old but it states that most condom breakage is due to  “blunt puncture” could you describe what that means.
Is it a small puncture that turns into a large one as intercourse is on going? Or does it mean that there is just one large puncture?

Sorry, but it is not our responsibility to resolve every inconsistency you can find by compulsive online searching. Some sites have unscientific, conservative perspectives. Perhaps Planned Parenthood's information was written by somone who suspects that some unexplained apparent condom failures are due to microscopic defects. But there is no scientific evidence of it. And I do not know what "blunt puncture" means. I would guess they're referring to penile pressure during sex.

Please note the forum does not permit repeated questions on the same topic or exposure, or similar anxiety driven questions about obviously low risk situations. This will have to be your last question like the ones you have asked several times. Future new questions like these will receive no reply and the posting fee will not be refunded. This policy is based on compassion, not criticism, and to reduce temptations to keep paying for questions with obvious answers. In addition, experience shows that continued answers tend to prolong users' anxieties rather than reducing them. Finally, such questions have little educational value for other users, one of the forum's main purposes. Thanks for your understanding.
