[Question #5573] #5557Herpes risk assesment- follow up

Hi Terri,

Thanks for your reply.

Can you please clarify below.

1) As I mentioned in earlier question I got rashes on August 27 2018 and doctor told initially it was fungal infection it was clear little bit with canasten but not cleared fully until October 20. Then I have applied fusidic cream then rashes gone but after washing penile head rashes reappear and this time doctor told me rashes looks different and gave me aclyvior 400 mg for 5 days then rashes gone then after one week rashes reappear in November then they were there until end of December
If it is fungal infection are those rashes will go with acylivor 400 mg tablets?

This is totally confusing me.

I have gone to doctor again in December and this time doctor told me this is not herpes and gave me antifungal tablet and canasten the symptoms cleared up after that no symptoms until May.

In first week of May I got red pimple on right side of penis head and applied fusidic and canasten then pimple gone after three days. After that my penis head become dry till date. Sometimes I feel burning/itching sensation in foreskin.

I have done Elisa igg testing in mid of December, January , February , May 5 , May 12 , June
10 & June 19. All reports are negetive except May 5 report.

May 5 report says 2.51 hsv 1(positive) and 0.96 hsv2 (equivocal).
This report covers 9 months from August exposure. If am positive by this time report could have positive am I right?

I am really confused whether I have free with hsv2 with 92% or test is missing in my case.

Please advise.

The rashes could have been fungal or bacterial and cleared on their own or with other treatment while taking acyclovir - not necessary a cause and effect relationship here.
I think that if you had contracted HSV 2 9 months prior to your final test, your results would likely have been higher than 0.96 but I can't promise you that.
The only way to know more clearly about your herpes situation is to obtain a herpes western blot from the University of Washington

Hi Terri,

Thanks for reply.

If I have hsv2 and intercourse with my without protection and she didn't have any blisters/lesions for next 2 or 3 weeks can I confident that I don't have hsv2 ?

I am ready to take western blot test but the problem is sending the sample to UW.

I am not really sure how can I send. That is the difficulty I am facing.

Hi Terri,

To continue, after May 5 result I have repeated the test in same lab on May 12 which came negetive with 0.65 hsv1 and 0.54 hsv2.

Tested on June 10 and 0.26 hsv1 and 0.27 hsv2

Tested on June 19 and 0.30 hsv1 and 0.40 hsv2.

All my previous exposure prior to October 2018 were 2 years and 4 years back.

2014 : 3 protected sex with one oral(I gave to her)
2017: handjob with massage oil after which rashes stared , no direct contact
2018: genital rubbing with towel, 10 sec touch to massage lady pubic area.

Is sharing vape or kissing on cheek transfer hsv1?

These all are my exposure till date.

I see it is difficult to get western blot done.

I have only one report has abnormal which was on May 5 and all other reports negetive.

Do I need to assume I have both hsv1 and hsv2 or does that May 5 report has some error or I am getting false negative continuously?

Do you want me to have one more test after 2 or 3 months or is it unnecessary?

Please suggest.

I don't think that doing any more IgG tests is going to be helpful for you.  With 92% certainty, you don't have HSV 2. And probably even higher than that given that your sexual history is extremely limited.   I honestly have no idea if you have HSV 1 or not due to that single positive and also due to the fact that the IgG misses 30% of HSV 1 infections.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the assurance on HSV 2.

Please answer below.

1) If I have HSV
Sorry that was accidentally submitted while typing.

Here are my questions.

1) If I have HSV1 my wife could have got by this time as I have kissed her while no symptoms?

2) if I have HSV2 and if I have unprotected intercourse with her and she didn't get any lesions/blisters next 2 or 3 weeks can I say she is not infected or when should she test to make sure she didn't get anything from me?

If you have HSV 1 orally, your wife could get this from you by kissing, yes, even with no symptoms
Some people acquire HSV 2 without symptoms at all so I can't say for sure that she didn't get anything from you, just because she has no symptom, no.  Testing would be up to her but if she wants more reassurance that she doesn't have anything, testing, MIGHT be useful.
