[Question #5659] Herpes 2

Hello

15 Days ago I had an massage encounter and there was mutual touching.  Nothing else.  11 Days later I had a rash on my inner thigh.  At first I thought it was from wearing tight shorts.  Today, I went to urgent care and the doc suspected some type of herpes infection.  How is this possible.  Just from touching?  He did a culture and I'm awaiting the results.

There are no spots anywhere but on my thigh.  I'm freaking out about this.

If you have herpes on your thigh, it is not a result of your encounter.  Have you been tested to know if you've ever had herpes in the past?  Let me know the results of the culture.  And try not to freak out, this seems possible if you were infected previously but not from the massage.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer.  I was tested in March with a blood test that said I was not infected with Herpes but reading all the info on the internet, that may not be accurate.  These lesions don't look much like the pictures found on the internet.  I might add that I did touch his junk and he touched mine.  Does that matter?

Touching does not transmit an STI.  So I wouldn't worry about this particular encounter
But you are correct that the IgG test misses 30% of HSV 1 and 8% of HSV 2 compared to the gold standard western blot

Hello Terri,

OK.  So my culture came back negative,  This week, I also did a ten panel std check which came back with a negative IGG Herpes Test.  I have only had the one encounter in the past 6 weeks so if I were to have contacted HSV it would have had to be from that encounter.  As I stated before, my symptoms are not typical.  I never observed vesicles, there was no oozing, they never itched, stung, or hurt and after 15 days, there has never been any scabbing .  There has been dry skin on the edges of the rash.   It is a cluster of bright red rashes at the top of my inner thigh--right where my underwear rubs on my thigh.

I'm at a loss of what to do next.  I just want to know where I stand in relation to a herpes infection.  Do you have any suggestions.    Thanks

Well, a negative Igg test a 6 weeks out means there is about a 70% chance that a final test at 12 weeks out will also be negative.  You aren't really reporting what sounds like a herpes outbreak.  But I actually think your odds are way higher than that since you didn't so anything that puts you at risk here.  If it would make you feel better, you could have a swab test done of the rash.  But if you have herpes, it's not from this encounter.
