I had unprotected vaginal sex with a Caucasian female age 44 who said she was clean, but my anxiety got the best of of me and I took a HIV RNA test at 21 days post exposure. How accurate would my negative results be?  Should I i retest?

Welcome to the Forum.  I'll be glad to comment.  The exposure you describe was low risk- HIV is rare (less than 1%) among Canadian women and even if she did have infection, your risk of infection from a single exposure would be less than 1 in 1200 exposures.  thus even before testing, your statistical risk for infection was less than 1 in 100,000.  Your HIV RNA results lower your risk for infection still more.  Most experts say that an HIV RNA test in a person with recently acquired HIV would have positive tests by day11 or 12.  I would believe your test results and in this situation, see no reason for re-testing.  I really would not worry.

I hope that this comment is helpful.  EWH

Oh, one more thing. She did give me oral after I had been tested, but from what I’ve been reading, this is a no risk exposure  and I should not be tested for only receiving oral. Correct?

Yes, you are correct. There are no proven cases of HIV which have been acquired from receipt of fellatio.   I urge you not to worry.

As you know, we provide up to three responses to each set of questions. This is my third response. Therefore this thread will be closed shortly without further replies. Take care. EWH
