[Question #5696] HSV2 Question

Hi Terri,
I had protected sex with someone twice over the course of the month of June. About a week after 2nd contact I experienced some internal vaginal itching. Since this area was covered by a condom, I feel that this wouldn’t be related? Then, a red bump that looked like a pimple w/o a Whitehead that did not hurt or itch appeared in my pubic area. I tried popping it, not much came out and then it got considerably smaller over the course of a few days before going away. There seems to be a cluster of bumps on my inner thigh but they also do not hurt or itch and upon a closer look I think they have hairs coming from them.I have a headache now but wouldn't this be accompanied by extensive lesions if herpes related? Since these areas were exposed to skin, I wanted to know if I had a reason to be concerned.
Thanks!

Condoms reduce transmission of HSV 2 by 96% so I seriously doubt that this is related to herpes.  In addition, your symptoms do not sound like herpes to me.  They are pretty non-specific and could be related to many things.  Let me ask you - you describe a cluster of bumps on your thigh - are they blisters?

They do not look like blisters to me, more pink bumps with hairs coming out of them. The one on my pubic area was very red but went away within 3-4 days i'd say. I am a bit worried though since I read that most people believe their outbreak is something else, such as an ingrown hair or pimple. What color does a herpes blister/sore usually appear as?
Thank you

Usually pink bumps with a hair coming out of them is folliculitis, a very simple inflammation of the hair follicle, caused normally by skin bacteria.  Herpes blisters are normally clear/skin colored on a red base.

Thank you,

Can herpes present as just itching? I went to the doctor and YI test was negative.  I'm a little concerned since it started 5 days after intercourse, but I have not seen any  lesions where the itching presents

Well, with a brand new infection, I would expect more than itching.  I don't know what the YI test is - yeast infection?  The in office version of that is less than perfect, for sure.  you could be sensitive to latex, yes?  Anyway, it doesn't sound herpetic to me.  But certainly if you develop lesions you should be seen.  I doubt that will happen.
