[Question #5715] HSV 1/2 IGG and I'm TEST

Hello, I recently did an HSV IgG and IgM test on JUNE 22 2019.
Results - HSV 1/2 IGG came back Negative HSV 1/2 IgM came back Positive.
On JULY 4 2019 I decided to redo the test from another lab and the results were HSV 1/2 IGG Negative and HSV 1/2 IgM Negative.
What does this therefore mean? How long do HSV 1/2 IgM antibodies stay in the blood for after initial infection?

The IgM is terrible and the CDC says never to use it. I would ignore it. IgM can be in the blood with new infection and recurrences - it comes and goes and is also not virus specific so you want to pay attention only to the IgG results when using herpes antibody testing.

Thank you. Following my positive IGM test - How accurate please is a PCR TYPE 1 DNA and PCR TYPE 2 DNA test? I just received results for these today and both came back negative.

Was the PCR test done from a swab test of a skin lesion or a blood test? PCR should never be done from blood - herpes virus is not in your blood except rarely with a primary infection. If from a swab test, there was no virus in the swab if negative.
