[Question #5724] HVS 2 Oral ?

Hello
Based on what I have indicated below how likely is it that I will infect a women by kissing and having intercourse with out a condom?? The women does not have any type of HVS

I became infected orally with what I believe is HVS 2 while performing oral sex with a woman that didn’t  have symptoms  this was two years ago and I’m afraid of passing this on to another women.  I had a Canker sore in my mouth at that time.

Afterwards I was sick for over three months with flu like symptoms and still today I feel I have less energy and my immune system is worse.

During. The first few weeks I had a warm tingly sensation on my penis and it got warm and I had a discharge of some thick substance.

I also started getting sores around my lips and mouth and later open sores in my mouth that would come and goes very fast.

I now take L-Lysine twice a day and also rub oregano oil on the Lowe back bone

Currently no sores anywhere and I never had any sores on my penis

I cannot help you with your question without some information that is far more firm than what you have provided.  HSV 2 oral infection is uncommon and herpes does not cause a thick discharge and herpes does not cause canker sores.  So I just have no idea what you do or do not have.  You don't list any antibody testing - have you done that?  If not, then you should.  And it should only be an IgG test, never an IgM test, or if you have a sore, a swab from the sore.  You definitely need more testing or if you have had testing, please let me know the results.

Hi Terri,  thanks for taking my question.

The canker sore I had before I had oral sex with this women. I’m thinking this is point of entry.

I had testing for most all STD starting at two weeks after (November 2017), one month, 4 months, 6 months and now up until just yesterday.

All negative. HVS 1&2 I gG, Hep A, B& C,
 HIV  /4th  Gen, chlamydia, gonorrhoeae,

I believe it is HSV 2 peak because of the tingling feeling and warmth of my penis after the event ending with some dark color something passing out of my penis with on 30 after.

Then I have started getting sores as I say in and around my mouth. No other sensations since on my penis.

Hope this helps you give me some more idea of what I have

That is if you believe I have something else than HVS 2 Oral

Thank you for that additional information.  If you had a negative IgG for HSV 2 6 months out from the encounter, that's great.  The IgG picks up 92% of HSV 2 infections, compared to the gold standard herpes western blot at that point (actually, at 12 weeks out).  But you don't sound reassured by that negative test.  If you want the best test, it is the western blot from the University of Washington.  You can obtain that test, working with your own provider and the UW or me - at westoverheights.com if you are still concerned about the possibility of HSV 2.  On the other hand, the IgG test for HSV 1 misses 30% of infections, compared to the blot.  Was there also kissing involved?

Hi Terri,
Thanks for the information.

No kissing involved  although we both gave each other  oral sex.

I’d like to take the western blot. I’ll go to the web page you list

I see from some other responses that oral HVS 2 even though may be rare the rate of exposing someone else is also low.  Can you comment about that as it is my primary purpose to understand as I’m now in a new relationship.

But also if I do have this HVS 2 orally can I also have chance to expose a women  during  unprotected intercourse?  So far I’ve been using condoms

Thanks

HSV 2 orally is uncommon because HSV 2 has a strong site preference for the genital area (and HSV 1 has a preference for the oral area though not as strong).
If by some rare event you did have HSV 2 orally, you would not transmit to other through intercourse and the virus would be shed infrequently from the mouth - very infrequenlty.
