[Question #5787] Gonorrhea and Chlamydia Risk and Cunnilingus

Hi there,
Performed brief (less than 5 seconds) cunnilingus on a stripper. I have no symptoms of any oral infection. Tested negative for HSV2 and Syphilis.
What are the odds of getting:
1. Gonorrhea
2. Chlamydia
Additionally, I performed unprotected cunnilingus (less than 30 seconds) on a different partner recently. If I were infected with Gonorrhea what are the odds of transmitting the infection?

Additional note- the initial incident with the dancer was 6 months ago and I live in the Midwest for geographical context.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.
Oral sex in general is very safe -- not completely free of STD risk, but compared with vaginal or anal sex the chance of infection is much lower for all STDs and essentially zero risk for some. And cunnilingus is safest of all. The chance of acquiring gonorrhea is probably under one in several thousand, even if the woman were infected. And chlamydia even lower, since chlamydia doesn't easily or often infect the oral cavity. As for your second partner, the transmission risk mouth to genital by cunnilingus is even lower; I'm not aware that there has ever been a proved case of gonorrhea or chlamydia transmission in this situation.
So on the basis of the risks involved, I would say no testing at all is necessary. However, if you would like the reassurance that comes from negative test results, you could have a throat swab for gonorrhea/chlamydia testing. If you do it, you definitely can expect negative results.
I don't know how to comment on your syphilis and HSV2 testing. Both were unnecessary in absence of symptoms. But the reliability of the negative results depends on timing. How long after the two cunnilingus events were those tests done?
I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thank you for the quick response- I do understand that should not be the expectation but it is appreciated.
With respect to the Syphilis and HSV2- I just shared that information as it was included in a panel of tests I had completed. The tests were done 3 months after the first incident. I have not gotten the tests done after the second, mainly because I show no symptoms and also because I am aware of the test window. I will not get another round of these tests done unless I show symptoms.
Thank you.

The pending tests 3 months after the previous exposure will be valid in regard to that event. All STD blood tests are reliable by that time. (HSV is borderline, rarely takes up to 4 months -- but in absence of symptoms and with the exposures described, I would have strongly recommended against HSV testing anyway.)---
