[Question #6031] Possible STI on lips?

Hello, I’m a 34yo man and made a regretful decision 4 wks ago and now am very worried, but hopefully just over analyzing this. Four weeks ago I gave fellatio with a condom to another man. This was my first male to male encounter. 7-9 days later my girlfriend developed a round patch of dry skin (7-10mm) on her lower lip, that wasn’t raised or painful in any way. There are no blisters or weeping, etc, and the area isnt raised. The patch is still present on her lip 3 weeks later but no worse, basically looks like a localized area of chapped lip. I haven’t noticed any lesions on me. We both feel perfectly fine otherwise.

I am worried I may have picked something up during this one time encounter and gave it to her, but the incubation period would have to be super short from my understanding for her to contract (from me) and develop a lesion a week after my encounter with someone else. Am I over reacting or could this be something like syphilis or something else? The timing just seems more than coincidental!!

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

Neither syphilis nor any other STD causes symptoms like you describe for your girlfriend. This has nothing at all to do with your sexual exposure 4 weeks ago. It's just a coincidence. Don't worry about it. Of course if you remain worried about syphilils, you could have a blood test. Since you ddin't get any oral symptoms yourself, there is little chance you acquired syphilis, so if you decide to be tested, you can count on a negative result. If negative, of course you could not have transmitted it to your gf:  you can't transmit something you don't have!

I hope you find these comments helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
