[Question #6062] HIV and STD’s

Good day doctors. I realize this question is of a low risk nature but please indulge me, as it will put my mind at rest. I was at a strip club getting a lap dance when I felt something wet hit me in the mouth/lips. There was a man getting oral sex in the chair next to me. If in the worst case scenario I was hit in the mouth with flying semen and some of it got in my mouth and he was infected, what is my risk for HIV or other STD’s? Do I need any testing? Can I continue unprotected sex with my regular partner? Many thanks. Your service is not only a help for sexual health but truly for mental health as well, thanks again.

In your two threads almost 3 years ago, we discussed types of exposure that do and do not transmit HIV. The bottom line is that without penetrative sex or shared drug injection equipment, you will never get HIV. Even perfoming oral sex on an infected male, with ejaculation in the mouth, is almost risk free, with an esimtated risk of 1 in 10,000 if the penile partner has HIV. That's equivalent to giving BJs to infected men, with ejaculation and swallowing semen, once daily for 27 years before transmission might be likely. Knowing that, you will understand that the tiny amount of semen to which you might have been exposed in the situation described carries little or no risk. This level of exposure also is risk free for all practical purposes for other STDs. Finally, I'll point out you don't even know such an exposure occurred: just sitting near someone receiving oral sex is absolutely no risk. I cannot imagine how that could result in semen flying through the air to reach your mouth or face.
So all is well. For sure you do not need testing and should continue your normal sexual practices with your regular partner.
Let me know if anything isn't clear. Best wishes and stay safe.

Not to belabour this but even if I was hit in the mouth, no change? Thanks.

Did you read my reply above? If there is virtually no risk from giving a BJ to an HIV infected person, and swallowing his semen, how could there be risk from something like you describe??? And if you'll try to just think rationally, what makes you think that person happened to have HIV? (Assuming he is heterosexual, under 1 chance in a thousand.) And if he did, how would semen fly through the air to your mouth? And nobody ever shows up in the busiest HIV/AIDS clinics who did not have unprotected insertive sex. What does that tell you?

Definitely no risk. Do your best to move on and let it go.
That concludes this thread.
