[Question #6189] Possible Exposure
|
I had possible exposures 24 and 32 days ago. I have been looking closely for lesions and have seen none. There is a slight pain at the tip of my penis. It seems to be in the urethra area although I cannot tell exactly where it emanates from. It comes and goes through your the day. It seems to be reducing in duration and intensity. I have been to the ER, Urgent Care, and PP. All three providers examined me and did not find anything of concern. I was placed on 14 days of Doxycycline which ends today. There is still a noticeable issue. Is this a symptom of infection?

Normally, if someone gets a new herpes infection, they will have symptoms within 2-10 days. And the symptoms are not there all the time, as you seem to be describing. They are intermittent and I would also be somewhat surprised if you got new herpes that your symptoms would be this mild and only inside the tip of your penis rather than on the outside skin of the penis. I am assuming you were tested for other STD's?
This does not sound to me like you acquired herpes at either of these encounters.

Yes, I was tested for all other STD’s multiple times and all results are negative. There is some itching/burning around the head of my penis as well. In the area that had intermittent itching, a small red area has presented. I went to Planned Parenthood for an examination and was told to apply some anti-fungal cream and all should be well. I am concerned as the red area has emerged where there was an intermittent burning sensation for the last few weeks. Planned Parenthood did not recommend further testing and said it was balanitis. The red area is rough and slightly tender but there are certainly no blisters. This area is on the corona of my penis. There is another smaller area closer to the middle of the head on the other side of the inflamed corona. Planned Parenthood told me there was nothing to swab and were confident there was no isuue.

Herpes doesn't present as a rough red spot but a mild fungal infection (balanitis) would appear in this way. Nothing that you have described is concerning to me, in terms of herpes. And I'm glad that you were able to see a clinician rather than relying upon an internet opinion, so much better.

Thanks. I was prescribed one tablet of Fluconazole and it seemed to provide relief in just a matter of hours. Is it common for Fluconazole to work that quickly?
