[Question #6217] Hi Terri, I contacted Dr Hook and he referred me to you.

On July 2, I had unprotected sex with a female sex worker. On July 10, I asked my local CRNP for a full panel STI screening. After about a week I received a call that my tests were negative. Recently a female friend asked if my test included Herpes. I actually didn't know. So, on Oct 11 I returned to my local CRNP and requested a test for Herpes. I received a score of HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec                0.98   High. This testing was done by LabCorp. I was shocked and extremely stressed. I was advised to return in 2-3 weeks for a follow up test. I read an article where you were quoted extensively about a two step approach. Here is the site

My question is do you offer this two step approach? My concern is not only for myself but for another that I may have exposed them. I would be willing to visit you for testing. Hope you can help me. This news has been extremely stressful and potentially life altering.

Hello, to begin, I want to let you know that I removed your last name from these posts - these can be read by anyone and I don't think you want everyone in Dothan to know your sexual history.  BTW, my former husband grew up in Dothan and I have been there several times - condom capitol of the world, right?
So which lab did your testing?  an index value of 0.98 is not a positive for any lab that i know about - it is an equivocal result for LabCorp and Quest.  So since you had this done at LabCorp, I would interpret this as equivocal not positive.  The thing is, you did the testing very early after your encounter with the sex worker.  We like three months from the time of the encounter before getting the most accurate test.  here is what I would currently suggest:  get another IgG test (never IgM) and see what is shows now.  If it is still in the equivocal range (0.91 to 1.09), I would just forget about it.  If it is higher than 1.09 then we could go for the western blot.  Alternatively, we could just go for the blot.  You could work with your own provider and the Univeristy of Washington to obtain this or if they decline, I can help you at westoverheights.com, the box that says video conference.  But honestly, I think you could start far more cheaply by getting another IgG test.  And you can either do that through your own provider OR order this online by yourself - there are a number of services that allow you to do this.  let me know if you have any questions and if not, let me know your IgG result this time OR what you would like to do next.

Terri, how can I be sure that LabCorp will do the IgG test? Thank you for the information. I do plan to get another test after October 7.  What is the best way to contact you? This portal?

I was told to be retested between Nov 6 and Nov 19. But not later. I will go back for the second test

Those dates are fine.  But really, the test doesn't get any better after waiting 12 weeks and it seems to me that you've waited that long already.   You can repeat the test anytime now. You can be in touch with me here or at westoverheights.com - better there if you decide you want me to help you get the western blot

Hi Terri, did you receive my question on the other site? What is my next step? Should I schedule a call with you?

I cannot tie the two sites together.  If you want a blot, you should schedule a video consult at westoverheights.com on the home page of the website.
