I had sex with a new partner and about 2-3 days after developed a red rash on the left side of my lower back, right about the belt line.  These are 2-3 distinct red areas with little bumps on each.  They do not itch, and are only mildly sore with pressure.  I have no other symptoms, no other areas with rash anywhere.  After 2-3 days with the rash i went to a walk-in/emergency care clinic.  Two providers said it looked like shingles and gave be Valocyclivir.  ~4 years ago i was tested for all STI's including HSV1 and 2 and for the first time showed positive to HSV1, but negative for HSV2.  I have never had any cold sores on my mouth or gentles that I can recall, so difficult to know what the HSV1 was back then.  My questions are: 1) could lower back/waistline "shingles-like" rash actually be a primary HSV2 presentation, with no other symptoms or rash?  2) Could lower back/waistline "shingles-like" rash actually be a recurrent HSV1 presentation?   Thank you

unfortunately the walk in clinic did not offer the swab test and I went on Valtrex.  The rash has largely cleared up with only some redish skin remaining.  I guess I'll need to wait for 3-4 months and have a blood test done.
