[Question #6431] Handjob Risk

Hi Doc,

I am very scared patient. Anxiety is killing me and I need help please.

Just to give you the full scenario below is what happened. I recently got a handjob with below details.

1. Saliva was no present. She didn't performed any Oral sex on me.

2. The message lady was clothed most of the time and didn't use any bodily fluid at all. No touching her Vagina etc. before touching my Penis.

3. I didn't have any cuts on my finger with which I touched her vagina for few seconds. Nail bites could be the only thing I cannot remember, but I am pretty sure if it was a case of nail bite it was not fresh.  I just touched her vagina once and most probably for few seconds.

4. We didn't engage in any other sexual activity at all. No Oral sex, no Vaginal sex and no Anal sex.

5. The oil she used for the handjob on my penis was the same oil she used for the body message she performed on me for an hour.

After the incident I have got too scared. I get chills but my GP has said it could be due to anxiety.

I cannot stop thinking about it and all day think about HIV.  I cannot help stop thinking about it. I am on anxiety medication.

I am at risk of HIV ?

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

Reacting first to the title of your question, hand-genital contact generally is entirely risk free -- i.e. no chance of HIV or other STDs, except perhaps in very unusual situations. And I don't see any such circumstance in this case. Saliva doesn't transmit HIV or STDs. Even if she used her genital fluids there would be little or no chance for infection. Cuts on penis or hands also do not pose a risk either. And the massage oil also doesn't pose any concern.

It seems clear you're reacting emotionally to a sexual decision you regret. Deal with that regret as you need to, but don't confuse it with infection risk. They aren't the same. Keep working with your doctor about the anxiety aspects -- which given their severity, might best include professional counseling. You certatinly do not need HIV/STD testing on account of this event -- but of course you could do that if the negative test result will help you move on without worry.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Yes. Nobody has ever caught HIV by fingering an infected person, either vaginal or anal.---

Thank you Doc you have helped put my mind to rest. I will not concentrate on detailing my anxiety.  I know this thread will be closed after  this ( I think ), just wanted to confirm 2 things;
1. My symptoms chills and low grade fever ( once ) had nothing to do with this incident?
2. You mentioned in your first response hand to genital are generally risk free except perhaps in very unusual circumstances, would you please mind explaining them for my knowledge.

Appreciate all the help you have provided me. Cannot thank you enough.

1. Yes. I am confident your symptoms are not due to HIV from this event, especially since your personal physician believes they are most likely due to anxiety.

2. If you had a gaping, freshly bleeding wound on your penis, and if your partner massaged her own genital fluids or blood into the wound, HIV might result.

Nobody in the world has been known or even suspected to have caught HIV from the sort of exposure you describe. You won't be the first!

As you understand, that completes the two follow-up comments and replies included with each question and so completes this thread. I hope the discussion has been helpful Don't over think this:  there's no way you caught HIV.

Best wishes and stay safe.
