[Question #6497] Question #6477 Follow UP

Dear Terri,

I understand you find my queries naive, but my apprehensions trouble me. So, it would really help me if you can help me overcome my anxieties. I would like to follow on the post #6477 PTSD on HSV 1.

It has been 5 days since the exposure,  but I haven't developed any cold sore on my lips. However, I am having common cold flue like sore throat and blocked nose two days after the incidence.

Also, today while brushing my teeth, I cut myself inside the lip, near the gum roots, and there was small bleeding. My doubt is that can a virus,if any, could be present long after the incidence and penetrate a cut? If so, would it be a risk considering my exposure?

I understand that cold sores and oral hsv 1 might not be as serious as other STI's and exposures in medical terms, and half of the population have it, but the thought of acquiring it , and later passing it to someone else, frightens me.

Last, you suggested that my incidence is extremely low risk. Is it low enough to stop being paranoid by it and not to wait for 10 days to pass?

I look forward to your response.

Thanks

Common cold symptoms are not related to herpes.  these symptoms are unrelated to herpes.  There would be no virus left from several days ago.  I would recommend that you still wait 10 days to see if symptoms of herpes develop but I seriously doubt that they will now.
