[Question #6551] Back massage risk

Hello doctors,
I think i know the answer to this question beforehand. I feel i am well aware of sti transmission hence my activities. However, suffering from anxiety before, ocd has returned.
6/7 days ago I had a back, head, leg and arm massage with oil. HJ was offered and this worried me.
Original fear was through contaminated shorts - concered about hsv but i have moved on from that from advice from terri.
Is there any way i could contract anything? assume worse and she was hiv positive or had syphillis.
Noticed a couple of spots on back next day. Again thought nothing of it. But is there any theoretical risk from micro tears? Oil was used but seedy establishment offering HJs. Didn't bank on this.
Is thia simply a dumb question and i should 100% move on? Absolutely nontesting necessary?
Even with spots and say cuts and if she had hiv or syphillis is this biologically impossible or at least simply never ever happens?
No more queatiins after this. Just want to be 100% safe. Am I?

Just to point out. HJ was refused flat out. She was fully clothed. No genotal contact whatsoever.

Welcome back to the forum. But having read your recent discussion with Terri, I'm a bit surprised you found it necessary, since her response included "this situation presents zero risk to you of acquiring any sexually transmitted infection." That is correct. You definitely should move on  without worry and absolutely do not need testing for any STD.

Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Hello Dr HH,
The reason i ask was the focus if my anxiety changed. So my questikns to terri were more focussed on massage shorts and hsv 2. However, dismissing that from my mind, started to worry about spots on my back - don't particularly suffer from this - and cuts in her skin. I am sure Terri considered this.
Even in these circumstances, is it fair to say, such transmission simply never happens?
Could you explain why it never happens just for peace of mind?
Thanks Doctor HH

You're missing the main point -- but you're on track with your request for explantion why. So here goes.

They call certain infections (or diseases) sexually transmitted for good reason. They are not simply infections that mostly involve the genitals but can be easily transmitted to other body sites. The bacteria and viruses that caused them evolved so that transmission requires contact of large amounts of them (or the fluids that contain them) with specialized cells that typically are deep inside the body. If they could be transmitted by hand-body contact, e.g. massage, then obviously they would also be transmitted by shaking hands, social kissing, exchanging money at cash registers, and iinnumlerable other forms of day to day interactions that involved skin contact with other people.

Nobody catches any STDs by massage, hand-genital contact, or contact with infected fluids in the environment, e.g. on a massage table. It simply doesn't happen.

So please no more questions on this forum about exposures other than sex. It's nonsense to be worried. If and when you have sex, do it safetly (common sense partner selection, condoms, etc). If you do that, you'll never get an STD. Period.
