[Question #6582] Hsv1

Hello! (Thank you again for your anticipated help.)

I had a little bump on my lip that may have been a cold sore I am unsure. It wS red then scabbed over the next day. (It was a bit yellow) It was on the edge, almost inside my lip. There was no blistering. If it was a cold sore and I used a makeup brush to apply makeup that touched the lip but then washed the brushes with hot water would this be enough to kill the virus on the brushes and prevent transmission? What if I washed the brushes with soap? Should I throw the brushes out?

Also, if I it was a cold sore and I shared a plate of food with someone (different utensils) can I spread it?  Just trying to be safe!

Thank you again.

Washing the make brush with soap and water should take care of any virus and is a good idea periodically anyway.
It would be extremely unlikely that you would transmit herpes virus to someone else by sharing utensils, but you didn't even do that!  No worries there at all.

Thank you for your response!

I was wondering if I should I discard all of my lipsticks or if I should just not share them with others? How long will the virus be active on my lips products and could they cause more breakouts?

I would say just don't share them immediately after using them.  Sources suggest that you renew cosmetics every year.

Thank you.

Is it safe to use a beauty blender to apply makeup on my face at this time?  The  bump is gone (there was no scabbing). I am just afraid I’ll spread the virus to other places on my face with the beauty blender.  I have also had a cold sore before years ago I believe.  This “cold sore” was very strange as it didn’t scab and went away working days. Is this common?

The presentation of cold sores varies greatly from person to person but most often, the bump ulcerates and scabs with a cold sore. IF you actually do have oral herpes and have had it for a while, it is in the nerves that innervate your face and there is no worry about your transferring it to another location on your face.  I'm sorry, I don't know what a beauty blender is but it doesn't really matter at this point anyway due to the reason described above.
