[Question #6633] Possible HSV 1 Throat Infection (continued)

Hello again :)
Just to re-cap my story (I ran out of follow-up questions) :
- I kissed a girl who appeared to have a sore on her lip.
- 3-4 days later came down with a sore throat, red blotches in my mouth (on upper palate, specifically) and a very bad headache.
- NO sores anywhere- none inside mouth or on lip.
- never had a history of cold sores.
I did get throat swabbed. I forgot to include the result of the swab in my previous message.
Also: I was put on valacyclovir for 5 days after my doctor's visit.
Any idea what's going on? Is it coming to get an "acute herpetic infection" (as the doctor described it) with these kinds of symptoms? I always thought herpes = blisters...

I answered this post on westoverheights.com, extensively. This is the same person answering here. As I said there, these tests are not definitive for a herpes diagnosis and the IgM should never have been done in the first place. Please repeat your IgG when 6 weeks have passed to see if the value is increasing and if other lesions appear, be certain to have them swab tested.

Hi Terri- Actually I believe you answered on here.
The reason I followed up is that you asked if my throat has been swabbed- a detail I forgot to mention in the original post- and I wanted to share the result of the bacterial culture.
Given that the swab did not pick up a bacterial infection, is there a diagnosis you’re leaning towards?

aaaaah, OK, good to know. No, this doesn't change my position because your sore throat sounds more viral to me than bacterial - not herpes viral - other common viruses most often cause a sore throat. I am leaning toward a viral sore throat that is not herpes related.
