[Question #6726] Tingling sensation? Burning? Frequent urine

Hi doctors,
Been trying now to figure out this feeling i have been getting, been 8 days since unprotected sex and for the past few days i have been feeling an uncomfortable tingle or pain on my urethra, not very strong but annoying.  It also comes and goes
Within the day. Like for an hour or two ill feel fine then ill feel this abnormal sensation.  Ive currently tested for every std besides herpes and urine tests for uti, all came back negative, and im stumped, is this a sign its herpes without rashes?  Ive heard that this is common for genital herpes despite showing no symptoms.  Is there any test i can try? Or is this something else i should pursit?

I would not say that pain in the urethra with new herpes is common - it certainly happens from time to time, yes, but usually accompanied by genital lesions, by 8 days out from the encounter.  And urethral pain with herpes is caused by acid urine passing over open sores in or near the urethra so pain at times other than urination is not as worrisome for herpes as would be pain during urination.  A herpes antibody test done at 8 days out is not going to be accurate - antibody takes time to be made by your body and 8 days is just too soon.  The soonest I have seen someone develop antibody is 10 days out from an infecting event.  Please let me know what other questions you may have.

I do have a few questions, my partner has no signs of any STI at all, but i started developing these flu symptoms, aches, and genital discomfort the following day, im not sure what symptoms im suppose to be having or what is normal but I have been having itching around my left buttock and back, as well as sharp tingling in the urethra but no signs or lesions.   Im traveling right now so the ability to get a baseline blood test is difficult since every doctor i have seen requires me to show physical signs vs what i have now, what test can i take to find something since its now 10-11 days since infection

you can order your own IgG type-specific antibody test through many online services, who all use one of the major labs, like Quest or LabCorp.  And you can generally do that no matter where you are in the US.  The tingling and itching are quite general types of symptoms and by themselves, with no lesions, do not suggest herpes as the cause.

I am currently traveling overseas,  there are some centers here i can take but im curious, what type of Ig test should i find? IgG or IgM? And since im feeling on and off around my groin and local area doesn’t suggest that im going to get an outbreak soon? If at all around the 2 week mark? Im just clarifying so i can try to get past this in my head, any new change ive been seeing has caused doubt in my mind that i contracted herpes but with no place or person that can give me an idea what i should be feeling at this point.  Thank you for being able to answer my questions and i hope i can figure out what is happening soon

IgG.  With no lesions, but just odd sensations in the genital area, I would not necessarily think you should worry about herpes.  I'm not sure why you have settled on herpes as the cause of your symptoms?  You can keep asking me the same questions but I don't have any answers for you, other than those I've given you already.  Sorry!
