Hi, I am a Brazilian guy, sorry my bad english.
3,5 weeks before i give a unprotected cunnilingus to a prostitute, 11 days after the episode i took the PCR RNA test (cut off 20 copies) and the result was negative.
How many the chances that i've been infected by the virus? Do I need avoid sexual contact with my wife?
Thank you

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your confidence in our services.

This sexual experience was very low risk, probably zero risk, for HIV. There has never been a reported, proved case of HIV acquired by cunnilingus -- either by the oral or vaginal partner. That doesn't prove it cannot occur, but it does mean the risk is extremely low. In addition, your negative RNA test at 11 days is at leat 90% conclusive and there is no realistic chance you have HIV.  For additional reassurance, you should also have an HIV antigen-antibody (AgAb, "4th generation") blood test 4 weeks or more after the exposure; the combination of that negative result plus the negative RNA test will be 100% conclusive.

But all things considered, I would put the chance you have HIV as well under 1 chance in a billion. If I were you, I would not have stopped having sex with my wife, and you certainly can safely have sex with your wife at this time.

I hope these comments are helpful and reassuring. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

These symptoms are not suggestive of ARS, which never cause cough or hoaseness (sounds like you may have a cold) or a single lymph node enlargement. Beyond that, I can't say anything more reassuring than I did above. Please re-read that reply.

Perhaps it will also help you to know that in the 15 years Dr. Hook and I have been doing this forum and a preceding one, with thousands of questions from people worried about catching HIV, not one has ever reported they went on to have a positive test result. You won't be the first.

You have one more follow-up comment coming on this thread. I suggest you have another AgAb blood test 6 weeks after the sexual exposure, then feel free to post the result if you would like a final comment about it. But I won't have any more advice until then. Try to relax in the meantime:  I am very confident it will be negative, and you should be confident as well.

Hello doc.
Sorry my bad english, again.
So, i took a 4th gen test after 32 days of my risk (cunnilingus) and another PCR RNA (20 copies) both negatives.
Theese tests combinated with my 11 days PCR RNA are conclusive? Or do you think i need retest in the 6 weeks mark?
And THANK YOU SO MUCH for the atencion and responses, here in Brazil a lot of information are misunderstood (some doctors says the window period is 6 months to 1 year)
Again thnak you so much.

This combination of test results is 100% proof you do not have HIV. All is well --- no more worries!

Thanks for the thanks. I'm glad to have helped. That concludes this thread. Best wishes and stay safe.
