[Question #6744] HSV Incubation

How do we know that HSV takes at least two days to show symptoms? Has there never been a documented case of it happening, or is there some biological reason why it can't show up sooner than that?

Does two days mean 48 hours, or is it more like, if you're exposed on the evening of day one, you might see symptoms the morning of day 3?

Is there any data on the frequency distribution of different times to first symptoms?

We have years of experience with people acquiring herpes.  We know about the two day incubation period from seeing patients who have had sex with someone prior to developing symptoms and the soonest we see that happening is two days post intercourse.  We know that the average time from intercourse with an infected person to symptoms developing is exactly 5.5 days.    Is that helpful for you?
