[Question #6846] oral sex

I am on antiviral medication I take it daily herpes type 1. I want to be intimate with my partner who does not have it. I gave him oral sex without a condom for just a few  minutes. Everything i read said his chances was low but did I just make a mistake an gave him herpes now? I did not have any sores on my mouth

I don't believe that you made a mistake by giving your partner oral sex for a few minutes.  You are on daily medication so that will reduce the frequency of you giving off the virus.  I am assuming that your infection is oral - that you get cold sores?  Have you discussed this with your partner?  Do you know if your partner has ever in their life had a cold sore or tested positive for HSV 1?  yes, then it is extremely unlikely that they would get the virus in a new location - i.e., genital.  Let me know!

I do get cold sores every once in awhile. But I was dx with genital herpes type 1. But my partner to his knowledge does not have it. And after giving him oral. Now has sores.

If you get cold sores, then your mouth can shed virus.  Has he had the sores evaluated and swab tested?  If yes, and his swab is positive, then he should also ask for typing of the virus.  If HSV 2 that didn't come from you, if you only have HSV 1.  How long after you gave him oral did he get sores and has he ever had them before?  If he wants to know if this is new infection, he should consider getting an IgG test for HSV 1 and 2.
