Welcome to our Forum and thanks for your question. Your Dad's test results are completely reliable. When persons acquire HIV the first thing that happens is that p24 antigen from the virus becomes detectable and increases in quantity. A bit later as the immune response occurs, antibodies to the virus are made and detected by the test as well. Sometimes, as the antibodies appear, the p24 antigen levels fall and become difficult to detect however, once the p24 antigen is detectable,, modern tests for HIV will ALWAYS be positive and can be relied upon. Thus while sometimes tests may become positive sooner, there is no doubt about test results after 42 days (6 weeks). After 6 weeks results of HIV tests in untreated persons are completely reliable.
I hope this is clear. If not, please use your follow-up questions for clarifications. your Dad's 60 day test results are conclusive. EWH
