I’m having a tingling  sensation intermittently at tip or just inside penis. I’ve had sti testing all negative but can’t test for HPv. I’ve had a cytoscopy found nothing. Urinalysis found only some WBC and highly acidic urine. Negative ultrasound and cat scan. I have diabetes uncontrolled and hypothyroidism. Does this sound like HPV?

Welcome to our forum and thanks for your question. I’ll be glad to comment. HPV infections are typically asymptomatic. Tingling is not a symptom of HPV. The most common cause of genital area tingling sensation occurs in persons who are looking for symptoms and notice what would otherwise be normal sensation.  Both diabetes and hypothyroidism can also occasionally cause neurologic symptoms although for those symptoms to occur in the general area would be quite unusual.

HPV testing is not recommended for men. Unfortunately there are a few laboratories which prey off of anxiety driven testing in some men. Even if a test were performed and detected HPV, there would be nothing to be done for it.

I hope these comments are helpful. The tingling that you describe is in no way suggestive of any STI. EWH

Ok so to my understanding you’re saying this wouldn’t be HPV related got it. My diabetes is uncontrolled. The only thing they found was Highly Acidic Urine and. Few WBC in my urinalysis so that led me to think maybe Urethritis as a result of HPV.  Is there anything you can recommend I look into as a possible cause?

There is nothing here to suggest HPV.  As I said, HPV is typically totally asymptomatic.  As I also said above, tingling is a non-specific symptom.further, intermittent symptoms of any sort are rarely a sign of something serious.  Poorly controlled diabetes may contribute.  This certainly does not suggest STI.

You haven’t provided much  information about yourself, your risks, or the duration of these symptoms.  Since you has cystoscopy I presume that you have seen a urologist who performed a proper history, physical examination and, if appropriate, cultures.  Small numbers of WBCs in the urine may be normal.

You might also the CPPS, depending on the duration of your symptoms.  There is a good description of this problem on Wikipedia.  EWH

Yes I’ve seen 3 urologists actually. They did the cytoscopy along with other things. One final thing and I’m done. Could HPV causes symptoms without lesions present? I’ve not been able to get a clear idea on it. Thanks in advance

As I’ve said, with our without lesions HPV does not cause symptoms.  The tingling you are experiencing is not due to HPV.

As you know, we provide up to three responses to each question.  Thus, as per forum guidelines, this thread will be closed shortly without further responses.  I hope the information I have provided is helpful.  EWH
