Hello I’m hoping to have the same doctor answer this question .So I’m continuing to have some anxieties over possibly have spread this to my daughter if I or my husband had the cold sores ...I’ve been repaying sve iOS and driving myself crazy basically! From what I understand the virus can live on surfaces for a while but loses its ability to infect you after a very short time ? Would this be the same for toothbrushes  sometimesi had  brushed my teeth in the shower and left  my toothbrush on the rim of the tub . This is how my daughter gets and out of the bath ..Could this be a way of transmitting ? And I wanted to mention that in the last post I used the Shea butter on her body including her butt near her genitals in case you assumed it was only her body. Also Is few weeks before my husband developed his spot on his lip I had a dry blue patch of skin on my lip in the same spot ... it peeled 2 x but it never developed into anything ... it wasn’t tingly or anything just a dry patch of bluish skin... I was wondering if that cld have been herpes? Also his top lip that has the small blister was very Tiny and never broke open it just dried and fell off .... woukd that be the ways cold sore manifests I was thinking maybe it could have been from the friction of the wound on the bottom or maybe the bottom got infected other then herpes and spread to the top? Do u think this could be possible ? Also I wanted to know what I need to look for on my daughter if she ever developed this ? Because she gets Irritated sometimes and I don’t want to worry that every little thing is herpes? Would U know if it’s herpes would there most definately be a blister ? Thank U for any help!

Your question about leaving on the toothbrush on the side of the shower - zero risk for your daughter is she touches that on the way out of or into the tub.  Viruses do not live long at all on hard surfaces or anywhere off people.
Sometimes cold sores can be small and heal before making a big sore so it's hard to know if this was a cold sore or not.  And the virus lives in all the nerves that innervate the face so if one time a sore happens on the top and then on the bottom, it's not because it's been spread by the person, it has just traveled along a slightly different nerve to get to the surface of the skin.
If your daughter develops a cold sore, you will know that she is infected but that's the only way you will know.  And you should not worry that every little thing is herpes because it likely is not.  The thing is, she may get cold sores in her lifetime, about half the population has them.  But something interesting that we are seeing now is a whole bunch of teenagers and young adults whose parents were very careful about them getting cold sores when they were young and they acquire it genitally for the first time, someone who does have cold sores gives oral sex to someone who never has gotten then.  I think you get the picture.  So if she happened to get cold sores as a child, then she would almost certainly not get it genitally when she becomes sexually active.  I'm not at all saying she SHOULD get cold sores but if she does, this is a small up-side.

Ok so a scratch ,cut ,chafing or pimple do I not  need to worry it is herpes?i have to look for a cold sore ? A blister or scab and it may be small and heal  quickly ... is this correct? Also .....Wondering if you thought anything about the bluish dry patch I had on my lip?Another thought maybe you can help sort out (. As u can see I’m a bit freaked out by all of this )...I had 2 rashes that were contact dermatitis on my face from skin products . The first one was diagnosed by a dermatologist and the second was in the same spot and same type rash so I’m assuming it was the same .They were both on my cheeks and top of my nose ... not near the nostrils or in between which is where I had then scab (wound ...whatever u want to call it )from  peeling the dry skin .Aside from these  rashes  I do not recall ever having anything relating to a cold sore . I was wondering if at all those rashes cld have been related to the skin peeling episodes ?If it were in two different spots? In other words could the rashes have been herpes even though it was nowhere near my nostrils and nowhere else on my face . It may sound crazy but I feel like I’m trying to solve a puzzle.Im freaked out ... and I don’t want to kiss my husband or do Anything orally related ! Was it him was it me ... is it anything at all ! I looked into the western blot and my doc doesn’t do it but I found out planned parenthood does them ... although o don’t want to go anywhere near there .Can I tell

Sorry o feel I need to clarify ...the 2 rashes I’m speaking about were many years ago and not at the same time as the recent issues I originally wrote about

The rashes do not sound like herpes to me - not at all - nor does the bluish spot.
False positives on the IgG test mostly occur in people who get an index value between 1.1 and 3.5.  In that total range, 50% are false positives.  But the IgG test misses 30% of infections compared to the western blot.  We have talked about this test before I know and I can help you get it done if you want me to at westoverheights.com
We need to help you get past this so you can start kissing your husband again!
