[Question #7068] Pimple or Cold Sore?

Hello,

I have been tested for hsv 1&2 twice before and each time got negative for both. The last being last October.

Today, i noticed what felt like a pimple coming in at the border  of my bottom lip. Its red and a little swollen and feels tender to the touch. So far i haven’t seen any blister.

Part of me believes it to be a pimple from wearing masks and sweating but i worry maybe its not. Does this sound like a cold sore? I also might have angular cheilitis in the corner of my mouth but that is going away.

Lastly, saturday night, roughly about 48-72 hours before i noticed this, i gave my boyfriend oral sex. I didn’t experience any tingling or soreness at the time. Should i be worried that this cold sore popped up soon after and i could have given it to him without knowing? Basically, how soon before symptoms is cold sore contagious? I know technically you shed the virus randomly as well, but should i be worried that two-3 days after, one may have come in? Should i be worried i was contagious then?

Been almost 2 days so wanted to make sure that someone saw my question.

The bump has gotten smaller. I tried pressing on it but nothing really came out. Just tender to touch. Doesn’t seem to have a blister but been putting acne and abreva on it alternatively.

Somehow, I missed this and I'm so sorry!
If this was a cold sore, I think you would notice blistering, maybe in a group.  Cold sores don't have pus in them, so if this has pus in it, it likely is NOT a cold sore.  And you are not describing that.  So I seriously doubt that this is a cold sore, and the oral sex should likely be just fine.  Does your boyfriend get cold sores?

Not that i know of.  It has now been a week and he hasn’t seen any symptoms.

The bump went down substantially and never seemed to blister. There was a little flakiness but that seemed to come from dry skin which was on my face in general. Never seemed to blister or scab just kind went away. I also realized it was under my lip, not on it.

But can you tell me how many days before symptoms show that you might be contagious? I know technically you could without knowing but is there a general day or two before? So, like my time frame Saturday- tuesday symptom, is it very likely i was already very contagious if it was a cold sore? Or does the 2-3 day buffer give me some
Assurance.

IF this was oral herpes, which by your continuing description does not sound that way at all, and IF he contracted this genitally from the oral sex you gave him, the average time of infection to a first outbreak is 5.5 days with the range being 2-10 days, rarely to 14 days.  People with oral herpes can shed virus before and after an outbreak appears, so difficult to know for sure in your situation.

I think honestly if he has had no symptoms in a week, the odds are good that he's not going to develop symptoms.  Has he ever in his life had a cold sore on his lip? If yes, then he already has HSV 1 and is very unlikely to acquire it genitally IF your symptoms were due to herpes.
