[Question #7082] Herpes or vaginal tear???

I recently had long sex (2 hours) with my uninflected partner and I have been diagnosed with genital hsv2 for 2 years now. After we had sex and mind you used no lubrication I had this tear come up at the opening of my vagina. How do I work out if it is herpes or just a tear from lack of lubrication/sex. If I get an outbreak which is rarely ever I do not get an OB on my vagina opening it's more just above my butthole. I vibe this isn't an outbreak but any advice would be helpful. I take daily antivirals and lysine plus everyday vitamins.

The only way to know if this is a herpes lesion or a tear from prolonged intercourse without lubrication is to have a viral swab done, preferably a PCR or NAAT test, which is most sensitive. If the tear is gone, there is really no way to know what it was but your partner should be observed for possible symptoms for the following 10 days or so after the encounter.

Thank you for your response. Just another quick question while I have this follow up open.
I have found an Australian pharmaceutical company that have released this news. Do you believe this is true and has the American sexual health association become aware of this?

I have seen this many times now. Until this study is published in a reputable juried, I am withholding judgment. The benefit of publishing in a good journal is that the data will be reviewed by scientific experts in this specific topic. I've been asked to review several articles for journal and the process is rigorous. And rigorous evaluation is just what we need when deciding how useful and safe something like this is going to be.
