[Question #7116] Am I at relevant risk?

Good morning,
I came across a situation that after some research I'm still not sure on how to deal with it. Around 8am Sunday morning I had an encounter with a CSW massage woman (I would say over 30y old but not sure) that consisted in unprotected oral (both) and vaginal protected sex and the vaginal sex happened twice. During the second time we re-used the same condom (which I know isn't a smart thing to do) and that's why I became concerned. There's not a strong reason to believe that the condom didn't work the second time but I'm also not sure as this is a new situation for me. I also noticed some skin lesions/maybe just different skin color around her vagina which scares me now. It didn't look like open sores or anything like that. I have had HPV in the past so pretty sure my partner already has it even if never had symptoms. Herpes has never been present in both of us but that doesn't worry me as we could carry it for years and years without knowing and isn't that harmful anyway (same for HPV) - correct me if I'm wrong). From what I read on this forum HIV isn't a problem as well.
As I have a regular partner I started freaking out. Unfortunately am not able to visit a specialist at this time and decided to do some research on the internet. I then decided to auto medicate myself with 800g of cefixime (tablets) and 1g of zithromax. I took the medication in one go on an empty stomach pretty much 24h after (maybe a bit less or a bit more) the event. So here are my questions:
1- Do I have any reason to be worried regarding STDs at this moment?

2- If not and after having taken the medication mentioned, when would it be safe to resume unprotected sex with my regular partner without risking transmitting anything (reasonably) to her?
Thank you for your time.

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your question. I’ll be glad to comment. The encounter you describe was low risk. Few STI’s including HIV are transmitted through oral sex. Similarly condom protected sex is safe sex as long as the condom is worn throughout the encounter and does not break. You are correct that reusing condoms is not a wise decision and that when condoms are reused they are somewhat more likely to break. Apparently your condom did not break however since when condoms break they typically break wide-open leaving no doubt that they have failed.
Regarding the specifics of your encounter let me add that most commercial sex workers do not have HIV or other STI’s and, on average, when a sex partner has an STI, most exposures do not result in transmission of infection Finally, the medications that you took would prevent any risk for gonorrhea chlamydia or syphilis.
At this point I would categorize the event you describe as low risk and would not worry. At this time there is little value in testing for STI’s either. I hope these comments are helpful to you. If there are further questions you have up to two follow-up questions to seek clarification. Take care. EWH

Hello doctor, thank you for your very fast response. Your response helps me indeed to relax but I still wonder when it would be safe to resume unprotected sex with my regular partner as initially asked? How long should I wait?
Also, I noticed that the cefixime pills at the back of the package says "cefixim" but not cefixime. I'm sure this is irrelevant and the drug is the same? I tried to google but don't seem to find similar things.

It would be safe to resume unprotected sex with your regular partner at this time.
Like you, I would presume that the drug you took was cefixime. EWH

Just to clarify that I'm in Asia and Sunday was 2days ago, therefore I only took the medicine mentioned above yesterday morning (20h ago). So based on this information, would it change your previous answer? How long after the medicine can I resume sex with my regular partner? Even after the medicine should I still wait longer for other things?
Thank you and I'm aware thread will be closed. All the best.

I understand that the interval since you took the medicine is rather brief. The antibiotic effects of the medication you took however occurs within hours of taking the medicine. You are in the clear. No change to my assessment or advice.
As you note this will be my final response as part of this thread. I hope my comments have been helpful to you. Please don’t worry. EWH
