[Question #7144] Genital herpes transmission

I contracted cold sores from my husband about 10 years ago. They only manifest in my nose and i have been on suppression therapy of 500mg of Valtrex once daily for about one year. This weekend he performed oral sex in the morning, and found he had a small coldsore that was already in the scabbing/blister phase in the afternoon (he wears a mustache and didnt realize) . After contacting a general practitioner she recommended doubling my dose for 3 days. My question is how likely am i to contract genital herpes if i already had contracted the same strain from him 12 years ago?

You are extremely unlikely to contract HSV 1 in a new location (genital) after you have it orally.  You can certainly observe for symptoms but I have seen this happen only once in my entire career.
