[Question #7279] Std through oral sex

hi, I'm a 28 yr old male and I have a concern. About a month ago I had sex with a girl while using a condom but I received unprotected oral sex from her. Now I am in a new relationship and been having unprotected sex with my gf. She recently started having discomfort and burning sensation when she urinates. She thinks it's a Unirary tract infection. My question is, how likely is it that I might have gotten ghonnorea or chlymydia from recieving unprotected oral sex and having protected vaginal sex? Im worried i may be asymptomatic and passed it on to her. Thank you

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your questions. Receipt of oral sex is a relatively inefficient mechanism for acquisition of sexually transmitted infections. Further, when men acquire gonorrhea or chlamydia from receipt of oral sex, the majority of these men are symptomatic. Thus, it is unlikely that you acquired an STI from the Exposure you describe.
As for your new partner’s symptoms, discomfort on urination is a typical symptom of urinary tract infections and occasionally is a sign or symptom of sexually transmitted infections. Putting all this together, it is unlikely that your partner’s symptoms are due to an STI. On the other hand,The only way to be entirely confident that her symptoms are not due to an STI is with testing.
Sorry I cannot provide greater assurance. In my opinion, it is quite unlikely that you acquired an STI from receipt of oral sex a month ago which is now causing symptoms in your new partner. Personally, I would not worry about it. However, as I said, the only way to be completely sure is through testing. I hope these comments and Information are helpful. Take care. EWH

Thank you for your input. One last question, she took UTI relief medication and that improved all her symptoms. Would that type of medication help with symptoms such as ghonnorea and chlymydia also. I know antibiotics is the only cure but she got this medication while she waited for her Dr to prescribe antibiotics for the uti. I was just curious if this would also help with sti symptoms

There are medications which can reducing burning on urination, irrespective of the cause (STI or UTI). Perhaps this is what she took. Further the activity of many antibiotics which will treat UTIs will also treat common STIs.
Bottom line. It is unlikely she has an STI related to your misstep it you are clearly worried. Depending on the tests she gets, she may or may not find out what is causing her symptoms. You however are concerned about the possibility of an STI and without testing you cannot be 100% sure you were not infected. Therefore, rather than let this nag at you, get tested at sites of exposure. Testing is easy, highly reliable, and can be done confidentially. I am confident that this will provide you with the assurance you desire.
This is my 3rd response to your questions. As per forum guidelines this thread will be closed shortly without further replies. Take care. EWH
