[Question #7382] Not sure if it is Herpes

So a little over a year ago I had a fungal infection and was precribed Clotrazole-Betamethasone and it worked. I suffered with the issue for almost a month and had no idea what it was. But my doctor gave me the cream and since I am diabetic he thought that it was a fungal/yeast infection.
Fast forward to present day, about a month ago I recieved unprotected oral from an escort. About ten days later my penis head felt stingy but not painful the only word I can think is raw, as if skin was missing. So I got home from work and put that cream on, then a few hours later some non-painfulc blisters had formed. Only on the head. I showered and later put more on and hours later the blisters were gone and the skin just seemed "deflated". Now about a week after I have what looks like a 1 inch scab where the blisters were. I did make the mistake of masturbating several times after this all started so I am sure that did not help the healing process, but I have not done that and it hurts when I get erection on the scab part. All this is only on the head no where else. Same thing as with the fungal/yeast infection infection. I just didn't start using a cream immediately after feel anything down there last time.
Not to add to any confusion but I started taking an anti-biotic called Sulfameth/Trimethoprim 800/160mg the day before this all started as well.
I apologise if this is confusing I am trying to explain as best I can. Thank you for your help.

Just to clarify, I did not start using that cream last year as soon as I did this time so I am not sure if that made a difference. Also, I have not had any fever, flu like symptoms, painful urination and the blisters were individual not in clusters. I'm sorry I just wanted to add as much detail and not make it as confusing. It's hard to get seen where I live at the moment and pictures online do not help much. Thank you.

So have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip? I ask this because if you acquired herpes at this encounter from receiving oral sex, it would almost certainly be HSV 1, the common cause of cold sores. If you have had a cold sore in your life, then it is highly unlikely that you would get that same virus in a new location on your body.
I have to say I am concerned about your description of blisters on the head of your penis as well as the development of a scab. Were you seen by any health care providers when these symptoms were present?

No i did not see a health care provider. My skin turned gray where the blisters were then the scab formed and the scab is now coming off.
I cannot remember ever having a cold sore in my life.
Are you saying this does not sound like Herpes?
I am wondering if the medicine I was taking and the cream I used really messed things up. Last year when I used this cream I had a color change on the head but that went back to normal eventually. Am I being extremely paranoid?
It was 4 individual blisters that soon deflated after I used the cream. The scab or healing did not look like any herpes pictures I saw but then again I am sure I probably did the wrong thing. I ordered some generic Valtrex from an online vendor. Not sure if I should use it or not.
I did not feel any pain to the touch on the blisters or the scab, only uncomfortable when moving around here and there.

So if I did acquire HSV1 on my genitals, how often does it shed ?
How infectious am I?

One more question.. I am sorry if I am overreacting. Is it normal for the first outbreak to stay only on the head of the penis? Absolutely nothing on the shaft or under the head.
Thank you very much, any knowledge you can share will be helpful.

If you have never had a cold sore, the lesion that scabbed on your penis could be HSV 1 infection.
If you did acquire HSV 1 genitally, you will be shedding on about 13% of days at the beginning of infection, dropping to about 7% of days at 4 months out and 1.2% of days at two years out. It is possible for you to do an IgG antibody test for HSV 1 and 2 and see where you stand now and repeat in 10-12 weeks. If negative for HSV 1 now and positive at the follow-up test, it would suggest that you did indeed acquire HSV 1 recently.

Thank you,
So basically you're pretty sure it sounds like herpes and with it being orally aquired it is most likely HSV1. HSV2 isn't usually in the mouth according to what I have read. I am kicking myself because I did not see anything on the womans lips.
I was wondering if a fungal infection could act like this or if maybe the medications I took could also be a factor. Also is it normal for genital herpes to just stay on the head? That IgG test, is that a blood test?
I am all healed up now and just a bit of discoloration on the head but that will come back I am sure. Thank you for your help.

No, I'm not pretty sure it is herpes. I am concerned that it could be herpes, given your description. If it is herpes (and I am not saying that it is), it is likely to be HSV 1. Yes, medication can cause skin reactions that are lesional. A bad fungal infection could break the skin, yes. Yes, the IgG test is the one you want, type-specific HSV 1 and 2 IGG. It might be helpful for you to get that. However, it is positive for HSV 1, it cannot tell you the location of your infection, only that you are infected. So it wouldn't tell you that what you had on the head of the penis was herpes. And it is far less common to have herpes lesions on the head of the penis than the shaft.
