[Question #7445] Red Bump Lower Penile Shadt

Hello Dr

I have had a red spot on the lower penile shaft for about a month now. I noticed it masturbating after a particularly long session. I brushed it off thinking I could have enflames a gland, however it’s persisted for longer then expected. The spot is smooth and shiny, nor does it itch or feel tender to the touch normally. Today i squeezed it and some pus came out like a pimple.

As for sexual exposures I’ve had about 5-8 unprotected oral sex exposures and another ~5 covered Intercourse exposures. None of the intercourse exposures have been for greater than 10 minutes and I wore a condom every single time.

I know it’s hard without pictures but given my exposure does this sound like it could be herpes genital warts? I’ve had molluscum in the past and this does somewhat resemble it, however it seems flatter and more “pimple like” then before. I was first diagnosed with molluscum about three years ago and havnt see any for about a year. Please let me know your thoughts - planning on getting tested but the anxiety surrounding this is definitely impacting my day to day life. Thanks again for all
The help!

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for your confidence in our services.

No STD is a likely cause of a "red spot" -- and in any case, this forum is not a resource for diagnosis of genital lesions or anything else. However, that you squeezed it and produced pus suggests it's a pimple, nothing more. Your description of "smooth and shiny" might suggest another molluscum contagiosum lesion, except molluscum doesn't recur after three years; and once infected the first time, people are believed to be immune to new infections. For sure it isn't herpes or a genital wart.

If it clears up -- which it might do, with pus having been expressed, I suggest just letting it go. If it persists or recurs, it must be examined in person. Don't go for lab testing-- see a doctor in person and take it from there. And there's no realstic chance it's an STD.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thx Dr

To clarify it’s more of a raised bump (tho fairly flat - much like a pimple). Really the fact that it’s been there approaching week three is why I’m still concerned.

My fear is that it’s herpes or warts - is this unlikely given the singular nature of the bump? Thanks again for the help!

Based on your description, there is absolutely no chance this is herpes or a genital wart. You have no STD at all! Believe it and stop worrying about that aspect. Don't assume that just because it's your penis, it must be an STD. I have a book titled Genital Dermatology Atlas. As the name implies, it's filled with photos and brief discussions of genital skin problems. Of 300 pages, all STDs are covered in 15 pages. In other words, the large majority of genital skin problems are not STDs. ---
