[Question #7489] HIV or?

So I have had a sexual encounter around 6 months ago and got an STD screening which included a HIV test around 3.5 months after this encounter because ever since this encounter I was experiencing general fatigue and whole body feels quite sore and my genital started to feel quite sore as well. I also have some brown patches on my skin but this might just be general sky dryness. The HIV test came back negative for this but I still am worried that it may be incorrect. To add, I am located in Australia and had the HIV 1/2 Antigen and Antibody test. Does the location impact this?
1. Is this test very accurate or should I still be worried ? Should I move on and stop worrying about this?
2. I also have been sexually active since like 5 years ago ish so would the results still be accurate? E.g. if I was exposed 5 years ago, would the antibodies level get impacted for this test or will this test still be accurate 5 years later?
3. Does being in Australia impact this
Thanks for you helps

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your questions. I’ll be glad to comment. The testing that you had following your encounter of concern 3.5 months after the event will provide totally reliable results and should be believed. There is no reason for further testing. In response to your specific questions:
1. Sexual health services available in Australia our top quality. You are 3.5 month HIV test result was taken at a time with results are entirely reliable and should be believed. There is no need for further testing.
2. When a person requires HIV, their test becomes positive and remains positive there after. Thus, your most recent test certainly would also rule out any infections acquired as long as five years or more ago.
3. No, being on Australia has no impact on the reliability of your test results. As I mentioned above, the sexual health services available in Australia our top quality.
I hope the information I have provided will be useful to you. If they are further questions or clarification is needed please feel free to use your update to follow up questions for that purpose. Take care. Stay safe. EWH

Thanks so much for your response
Another question is, is this HIV 1/2 Antigen and Antibody test a very reliable test and accurate test? I hope I am being too paranoid.

Please don’t worry. The HIV antigen/antibody tests use in Australia, like those in the United States, are amongst the most reliable tests in all of medicine. Your results should be believed. EWH---
