[Question #7513] Medication

I am going to be married soon, and my fiancee says that she gets herpes outbreaks once or twice per year.  She takes herpes medication after she gets outbreaks.  If she takes herpes medication everyday, would the chances of me getting herpes from my fiancee lessen, if she says that she only gets outbreaks once or twice per year?

Do you know if she has HSV 1 or HSV 2?  If she has HSV 1 genital infection, the risk of transmission would be extremely low.  If she has HSV 2, taking antiviral medication would reduce the risk of transmitting infection to you would be reduced by half.  If you use condoms, that would reduce transmission by about 65%.  Have you actually been tested to know that she is infected and you are not?

Thank you, Terri. She has gotten tested, and she is infected.  I do not think I am infected, but I will get tested to make sure I am not infected.
