[Question #7515] My partner has HSV 1 (O), I now have HSV 1 (G), can he get HSV 1 (G) from me?

My partner has HSV 1 (oral) and I now have HSV 1 (genital.) I am newly diagnosed with HSV 1 genital and we are trying to understand how we can
safely proceed with having intimacy. He has never had any genital outbreak, only oral. Do we need to use condoms? Is it safe for us to have oral sex. We obvious do not want him have to experience a genital outbreak.   Thank you for your assistance.

I would say that you are pretty much home free.  The likelihood that he would get this genitally now, from you, is incredibly low.  Is it zero?  Probably not but pretty darn close to zero.  If I were in your situation, I would not give this a second thought.  If, by some unusual happening, he acquired HSV 1 genitally, it would rarely recur and rarely be shed from the genital area.

Thank you so much for your quick response Terri, I really appreciate it. Does that mean that the likelihood of me getting HSV 1 oral from him is also a very low risk?
