[Question #7521] Further elaboration

Hello I just wanted to further elaborate on my last question since the last one wasn’t fully answered.

If I gave oral and potentially had brief insertion of his penis into my vagina and I got a negative result from a 4th generation test taken 27 days and 11 hours after exposure (so 13 hours away from the full 28 days) would you recommend retesting or would you trust those negative test results? Thank you.

Welcome back to our forum although I must say I’m sorry you felt the need. As I said in our early or exchange, even with the possible penile contact/insertion that you describe, your exposure was virtually no risk for HIV even before testing and your tests provide greater than 99% proof that you were not infected. I see no reason for further testing or continuing concern.  EWH---

Thank you so even with the potential unprotected penis inserting into my vagina it doesn’t affect or lower the conclusiveness?

And the fact that I had 13 hours left until the 28 days were fully completed also doesn’t affect my test results?

I just want to be sure that 13 hours wouldn’t be significant enough to seroconvert in that time period without knowing.

I appreciate that you are anxious about the events you described.  Repeating the questions however is not going to change my assessment or advice.  You  can, of course repeat your testing if you wish but I see no need and am confident that, based on your description of your exposure and your test results that you did not acquire HIV from the encounter you describe.  EWH ---

Thank you again I just wanted to be sure there was no misunderstanding on the situation because of how serious the matter is.

Other sources told me it was risky to not wait the full 28 days so I wanted to be sure and ask an expert like yourself to be sure that 27 days would be just as accurate as 28 days.

Although I think I will test again when I can just to be reassured  I just don’t want there to be any surprises. I think my biggest fear would be accepting my negative results just to have a surprise later.

Thank you for confirming that my oral and possible penetration exposure are both confirmed negative by the test I took 27 days later. Happy New Years!

Please don't think I take this lightly.  I approach this role professionally and base my responses on more than 30 years of research and other professional activities in the field.

I repeat (again) - there is no meaningful difference in your results at 27.5 days and 28 days, i.e. +/- 13 hours!  I do not know what your other sources are but they are unnecessarily splitting hairs.  I remain confidence that repeat testing will only confirm the results you already have.

This is my 3rd reply to this thread.  Therefore, as per Forum Guidelines, the thread will be closed shortly and there will not be further replies.  Take care, please don't worry.  EWH
