[Question #7731] Likelihood of contracting herpes

I recently (3 days ago) had a sexual encounter with a woman who told me afterwards that she had genital herpes. I would like to know based on the encounter what my risks are of contracting it from her. She did not specify which type, 1 or 2. We did not have sexual intercourse with penetration and my penis did not touch anywhere near her vagina.

I did touch her vagina with my fingers. Afterwards, my fingers where in her mouth as well as her performing oral sex on me after that. She also touched her vagina and touched my penis afterwards. We also kissed.

She says she was not having an outbreak and was on daily medication. She explained that I should have nothing to worry about since we did not have penetration which she also said had a low transmission rate regardless. I’ve been overly stressed out about this and wanted to ask a medical professional. Thank you.

The situation that you present here is not a risk for the acquisition of genital herpes.  Period.  She's right - no risk at all.  I hope this helps you relax about your concerns.
