[Question #7775] Oral to Genital HSV

Hey there, might just be my anxiety rearing it’s head but , I was with my girlfriend last night and she gave me brief oral (2-5 minutes). When we woke up in the morning I noticed a red mark on her lip and she said it was a pimple she had popped the day prior. It didn’t really look like textbook herpes but it was a red blemish on the border of her lower lip. She said it was tender. I’m concerned this is HSV and that she could have transmitted it to my penis. I know this is possible but what’s the likely hood here that I would get genital hsv1 from this? Is it something I need to be concerned about or is the risk very small?

She told me that it was an under the skin pimple she thinks and her mom popped it with a needle last night. I dunno though.

In my experience, pimples on the edge of the lip definitely happen and they pop and resolve. If it was herpes on her lip edge, it would most likely be a group of small blisters that would break open, crust over, scab and resolve. That takes a while. If it resolved really quickly, I vote for pimple. I've had them myself. They look and feel pretty different than cold sores. Have you ever had a cold sore on your lip or in your nose? If yes, then it is extremely unlikely that you would subsequently get them on your penis. What's going on with the pimple today?

I’m not sure I haven’t seen her but, she did say it never itched/burned.. it looked like a pimple that was stuck with a needle tbh .. just the concerning placement right on the border of the bottom lip. I’ve tested negative for both types of HSV within this year. It’s been about 60 hours now .. 0 symptoms

I just asked her and she said it’s nearly healed from when her mom popped it

IF it was a cold sore tho (I also am curious about this for the future) what’s the likelihood of transmission if I’m negative? During or not during an outbreak (I’ve had partners before and received oral regularly later to find out they had oral hsv)..without transmission but... it definitely turns my gut.. there’s just not a ton of reliable information on it .. and the information there is seems to be broad and vague

We don't have exact stats on that. So I'm being vague also because we just don't know. Do you know for certain that you are negative for HSV 1?
