[Question #7777] Do I need more testing?

I had unprotected anal sex with a guy ( I inserted into him on Dec 31, 2020. On January 7, my partner tested negative for hiv (I don’t know what kind of test he did) On January 25, 2021 We had unprotected oral, and he also fingered me really hard with lube. On February 2, I took an oraquick the C line was full, but the T line had a 1/4 or half line (I didn’t let the test finish in the 20min, got nervous) on Feb 9, (5 weeks after the unprotected sex, oral and fingering ) I took a 4th generation antigen/antibody test which came back non reactive. A few weeks after that on Mar 2,  (8 weeks after the unprotected sex, and oral) I took another 4th generation hiv test and it came back non reactive. Should I be worried about the oraquick false positive/invalid results after having two 4th generation non reactive test from my vein?   I have been really nervous and have been to serval hospitals for panic attacks thinking I have hiv and that if I do that the treatments are going to be resistant to me. Do I need another test?

Welcome to our forum and thanks for your question. I happened to be on the site around the time your question appeared so you are getting a response somewhat more quickly than his typical. Follow up responses may take longer.

You can be confident that you do not have HIV. By and large fourth generation tests are far more reliable than the rapid test which gave you the aberrant result. That your partner had a negative test a week after your insertive encounter makes it extraordinarily unlikely that he had HIV and was infectious at the time you had sex.  Further, at five weeks, Fourth generation tests are more than 99% conclusive and your 8 week test is entirely conclusive you do not have HIV.  I see absolutely no reason for further testing. I hope that this information will help to resolve the anxiety that you are experiencing. EWH

My anxiety continued to get the best of me, so I broke down and got a 3rd 4th generation test today (April 12) I’m just waiting for the results. Should I expect it to be negative as well?

As I’ve said earlier, at this point having both tested and confirmed your negative test results I really see no reason for further testing. EWH---
