My boyfriend has genital herpes.  He tas been taking 500mg. valtrex for 5 months.  During vaginal intercourse, he uses a condom.  If he doesn't use a condom but continues on the valtrex, what is the reduction in risk (%) to me of catching the virus?  Is there even a reduction in risk (%)?  What is the risk (%) to me of catching the virus if he continues on the valtrex and continues to use a condom?

Antiviral medicine reduces transmission by almost 50%.  If he uses a condom, that reduces transmission by 96%.  Combined with a condom, the risk of transmission is very very low indeed, probably 1-2% a year if having sex about twice a week.
