[Question #7830] Final Question on Antibiotics please

Gentleman please if one of you could just reply regarding the effect of Antibiotics on Hiv testing.
There is a company in the UK called Better to Know and they say some antibiotics and long term antibiotic use can effect Hiv 4th Gen duo testing.
Obviously this has alarmed me as I’ve been on and off antibiotics for three months for my chronic pelvic pain syndrome and eppydidimus.
During this time I had tested numerous times with HIV 4 th Gen tests.
The doctor at my Gum clinic said the only Antibiotics that may effect HIV results are the ones to treat TB.
So are Ciproflaxcin, doxycycline and Nitrofuriteen ok?
At my final hiv test I did at 4 months I had been off antibiotics for 31 days, is this a sufficient time or is it irrelevant as antibiotics do not effect the test.
Sorry if my questions may seem repetitive and I’m sure you may have answered this before but I just wanted to make sure I had this Info so I could try and move on from my incident.
Kindest Regards once again

I'm sorry you ignored my advice last time. It included "As for many anxious persons, the last thing you should be doing is searching the internet about any of this. You're being drawn to crap that inflames your fears and missing the reassuring information that also is there, especially on professionally run or moderated sites. Don't do it any more, OK?" and "There are no medical conditions or medications that have any effect on the reliability of HIV testing." Prior to the last statement, I specifically said that ciprofloxacin makes no difference.
I have not heard of Better to Know, whether they are a professional or lay resource. But the statement you quote is just plain wrong. Yes, cipro, doxycycline and nitrofurantoin are fine -- absolutely no effect on HIV test reliability.
Going back to your internet obsession, a few years ago, the famous statistician Nate Silver (https://fivethirtyeight.com) wrote a book tittle The Signal and the Noise. In it he states (approximate quote) "Given an anxious person a computer with an internet connection in a dark room, and soon he'll believe his cold is the bubonic plague."
This is your last question on this forum that raises concerns about HIV testing. If you try, it will be deleted without reply and without refund of the posting fee. Repeated anxiety driven questions are not permitted -- they tend to prolong anxiety, not relieve it; and such questions have limited educational value for ohter users, one of the main missions of our forum. Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you Doctor Handsfield,
I understand and appreciate you clearing that up.
I will not bring up hiv testing again.
I am seeing my urologist on Friday for a follow up to my CPPS, I have a feeling he will put me in some more antibiotics perhaps some non specific ones to try and cure my condition.
As you have mentioned the non bacterial Prostatis is very difficult to pinpoint.
I’m very reluctant to take more antibiotics but my condition is very distressing and as you can see by my questions have effected my mental state.
In much earlier posts on the forum you have both mentioned Mono, could be a cause of Prostatis?
is it worth mentioning to my urologist or anything else that could be causing my symptoms damage to my urethra?
My issues all stem from the last exposure which was a handjob with a condom, I was in pain straight after ejaculation and the next day was peeing every 20 mins or so.
Things just got worse from there.
Maybe I had an adverse reaction to the latex.
Would it be ok if I kept the last reply open until after Friday appointment with the urologist in case I have any questions.
Best Regards

Mononucleosis is not known to be associated with prostatitis in any way. You never saw that from me, and I doubt very much from Dr. Hook.
There is absolutely nothing in all you'v esaid in 3 threads that is likely to have any relationship to CPPS/prostatitis, with the possible exception of an emotional component: you're clearly anxious and uptight about all this, and many (most? nearly all?) the manifestations of CPPS have a psychological component or influence. The relationship of your symptoms to that kind of sexual exposure is also far more consistent with a psychological cause more than an infectious one. Latex allergy/reaction is also smoke and mirrors.
I'll be happy to close this out after you've seen the urologist. I suggest you consider printing out this and your previous thread as a framework for discussion with the urologist. I'm confident s/he will agree with most of my comments.

So I saw the urologist today and we did numerous blood tests to check my infection markers, see if I Diabetic etc
Also did a sperm test and a MRI of my prostate.
Results back next week.
Said he thinks a lot of my symptoms are anxiety driven but some are not like swollen lymph nodes, we did another HIV test on the basis he said antibiotics shouldn’t effect results but just in case, made me a little worried.
I have a new swollen lymph node under my leg and my right shoulder is crazy achey.
Could all my tests have been wrong and missed an infection?

4th Gen lab test at 112 days negative.
5th Gen lab test 115 days negative.
I trust yours and Dr Hook opinion more but I guess he wants to cover his backside as well, maybe he thinks I’m Not telling the truth about my type of exposure and when it happened probably happens all the time.
Can we leave the thread open so I can post my hiv results next week.
Thank you.

Please stop testing for HIV! The first two results were nearly conclusive, and even those proved 100% that any symptoms you had were not due to HIV. The 9 week test not only showed your symptoms were not due to HIV, but that you don't have HIV. That remains the case with all the superfluous tests thereafter.
There must be 100 conditions more common than HIV that cause lymph node enlargement. In any case, I agree with your urologist that most of what you are experiencing in symptoms is anxiety driven.
Threads are closed after two follow-up exchanges after the initial question, and there is no point in keeping it open just so you can post yet another unnecessary negative HIV test. But I'll make a deal with you: if it's positive and you post that as a new question, we will reverse the posting fee. (Assuming you haven't had another exposure more recently, it cannot possibly be positive.)
I hope the discussion has been helpful. But please note the rule against repeated anxiety driven questions. This being your third, any more you post along these lines will be deleted without reply and without refund of the posting fee. Thanks for your understanding.
