[Question #7851] Oral encounter

Hello Dr. Hook. I went to a massage parlor 8 days ago. Unexpectedly the lady attempted to give me oral sex. She placed my penus in her mouth and i instantly (3-5sec) pulled it away. I instantly got up, dressed and left. I was upset. I currently have zero symptoms over a week later.

1. Is there an Hivrisk?
2. STI risk?

Can i resume normal sex with my partner?

Thank you!

Welcome to our forum. Thanks for your questions and for your confidence in our services. I’ll be glad to answer your questions. The exposure you describe is low risk. Most commercial sex workers/masseuses do not have HIV or other STI’s.  In addition most unprotected exposures to infected partners do not result in infection. Amongst sex acts, oral sex is the least efficient exposure for transmission of infection. In regard to your specific questions:

1.  There is no known risk for acquisition of HIV. There are no cases in which HIV has been proven to be transmitted through receipt of oral sex from an infected partner.
2.  Are relatively few other STI’s are transmitted the following receipt of oral sex. The two most common STI’s which occur in the situation are gonorrhea or non-chlamydial non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU).  With both of these diseases most infected individuals are symptomatic with symptoms beginning to occur between two and seven days following the exposure. The fact that you are currently asymptomatic, Eight days after the event makes it unlikely that you acquired an infection of any sort.

I see no reason for you to abstain from unprotected sex with you or regular partner related to the encounter you have described.

I hope the information I have provided is helpful. If there are further questions please don’t hesitate to use you were up to two follow up questions for clarification. EWH

Thank you Dr. Hook. I appreciate the response, so quickly. You have calmed my nerves tremendously!

So it sounds like you wouldn't even recommend testing of any sort?

Again, asymptomatic besides my anxiety! :)
If it were you, would you resume intimacy with your partner?

Thx again!

I’m glad my comments were helpful. You were correct, I see no reason for testing at this time and no reason for you to hesitate to have unprotected sex with your regular partner. EWH---

No, the MedHelp site has decided to go in another direction and neither Dr. Handsfield nor myself continue to be associated with it. This website is the place that we currently answer questions and have done so for the past five or six years. EWH

As a final
Question, does my brief exposure (less than 10 seconds) play a  factor as well?

Final response.  The brevity of your exposure makes if even less likely that you acquired ANY STI from the expsoure you have described

This will end this thread.  Please don't worry.  EWH
