[Question #7858] HIV Risk and Testing Assessment
51 months ago

Dear Doctor,
I hope all is well.
One day last year, I had protected vaginal sex twice with and received unprotected oral sex twice from an escort in New York. I did not remember if I sued the condom perfectly during the vaginal sexes- maybe when I pulled out my penis from the vagina the condom was not protecting the end of my penis.
30 days after this encounter, I went for an HIV ag/ab test and the result came back negative.
Could you please help me assess the HIV risk and testing result? Was I at risk for getting infected with HIV? Do I need further testing?
Thank you in advance for your kind help!
Best,
Jack

Welcome to the forum.
Condom protected sex is nearly 100% effective in preventing HIV. Slight touching of the penis to a woman's genital area carrries little or no risk. Oral sex almost never transmits HIV. This was a zero risk exposure, or very nearly zero risk -- even if your female partner has HIV, which she probably does not.
The HIV AgAb are nearly 100% conclusive at 30 days. However, it is necessary to wait until 6 weeks for truly 100% conclusive results.
Given the extremely low risk of the contact described plus the test result, you can be 100% sure you do not have HIV. No further testing is needed.
I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
